1. Tesla's new Solar Roof. These are stylish new roof shingles that have solar cells embedded in them, created by Tesla Motors and announced end of October. Their concept is that these roofs will be able to generate electricity to run Tesla cars. There are a pile of articles about this, eg Bloomberg Technology's article "No One Saw Tesla's Solar Roof Coming". Go Tesla go!
This Vox article reviews the Tesla Roof and also lists off some other new solar devices; another roof system as well as solar windows. In any case it's nice to see multiple advancements in this technology: Tesla's solar roof rollout was... meh. These other new solar power gadgets are cooler.
2. Canada Mortgage and Housing Corporation (CMHC)'s new "Affordable Rental Innovation Fund" This is a new $200 million pot of federal funding catered to folks looking to develop sustainable affordable housing in Canada, announced September 30th of this year. 3. Forgot to mention this in the last post but the Fairview neighbourhood of Halifax has a new restaurant/bar/music venue called The Anchor on Dutch Village Road. Haven't had a chance to check out a show or eat there but it looks very nice inside, and according to their twitter feed they seem to be getting good live music acts to go with good looking food.
