Now Available at Catfish Moon Folk Art and Craft, July 22, 2016

This past Wednesday I dropped of some work at Catfish Moon in scenic, historic Annapolis Royal and am very excited to now have items available at this venue.  Catfish Moon is a very lovely shop/gallery/studio specializing in folk art while offering a variety of work by a number of artisans.  The owners are a couple who are retired from their successful studio pottery practice of the same name, although Angela continues to create beautiful felted landscapes which are available for sale.  

The gallery is open May - October, every day from 10am - 5pm, at 170 Saint George Street.  It is located downtown, close to the historic Farmers and Traders market; a fabulous huge outdoor market which runs on  Saturdays from 8am - 1pm, late May - early October, with a smaller version on Wednesdays in July and August from 10am - 2pm.

I brought in a selection of pieces from the most recent firing.  First, the farm animals:

Next, a four new wildlife pieces.  Annapolis Royal is less than an hour from the main, inland part of  Kejimkujik National Park, which is home to all sorts of animals endemic to Canada.

Making Progress... March 28, 2015

Here are some photos of various figurines, larger animal figures and bowls I've been working away at.  There are a bunch more pieces that aren't included in this post!  

I like photographing sculptures in the greenware stage especially when I try something new, as everything doesn't always make it through the firings unscathed.  My success rate is getting better though!  

All of the pieces in this post are cone 6 stoneware.

My Glazing/Kiln shed earlier this week, under this winter's giant snowfall!  Big thanks to my husband Brendan for digging out a trail to it!

Lots of shredded newspapers all around the inside of the shed which has apparently become a winter haven for some real creatures.  In previous years there's been a ground hog living below it; wonder if he's hibernating...

I love making fox figurines, and for this firing have made a couple large ones as well as a sleeping fox bowl.  There are a couple of standing fox bowls too that didn't make it in the photo.

New Papier Mache Art

Look, Look! I made 3 new pieces of papier mache art this month:

The first piece was this Rainbow Triceratops which was a commission for an old friend inspired by a very early piece I made in 1993, back when I was making big papier mache animals while doing my biology undergrad.

 

Next was a seagull and beaver that I finished up to take down to Jenny Jib today along with a bunch of figurines and other pieces from my available art page.  I don't give my creatures name tags anymore, but I nicknamed these ones "Steven Seagall and Justin Beaver".  Here are a few pics from a quick photo shoot at the Lunenburg waterfront before heading to the store.
